How to safely update to a new version of FatWatch

Some users, of FatWatch and other iPhone applications, have reported that after updating their data has disappeared. Therefore, it is recommended that you use the Wi-Fi Import/Export feature of FatWatch to save a copy of your weight history before updating.

Before you update

  1. Connect your iPhone to your computer.
  2. If iTunes does not automatically sync your iPhone, perform a sync to store a backup on your computer.
  3. Disconnect your iPhone.
  4. Use Export via Email to create a quick backup copy of your weight history.

Update

  1. On your iPhone, tap the App Store icon, then tap the Updates tab. Install the FatWatch update.
  2. Once the FatWatch update is installed, start FatWatch and confirm that your data is still intact.

If your data is missing

If your data is missing after the update, you can use use Wi-Fi Import/Export to restore your weight history from the backup file.

Note for FatWatch 1.0 users

Under some circumstances, FatWatch 1.0's exported file will contain dates that are off-by-one-day. If you import this file into FatWatch 1.1, your data will continue to be off-by-one-day. If you do not have many dates, you can fix the weight.csv file manually using a text editor or spreadsheet application. If you would like assistance with this, please contact me and I will try to find a way to automate the process for longer files.
